The Climate Reality Project needed to reinvent ways to communicate the complexity of climate change and help move the cultural perspective from despair to hope.

The Challenge

We began to show people that action and solutions were possible. It was a critically important shift for Al Gore and his organization, The Climate Reality Project. We began focusing on solutions and the entrepreneurial innovation that‘s changing the world around us.

Climate Reality's Website

Climate Reality is about action on climate change, so we set out to create a digital experience that empowered people to drive change.  We designed the site to allow people to curate the content that they were most interested in. This wasn’t a website, it was a tool for action.

We are often moved by what we read and hear, but we struggle to find ways to participate. Instead of leaving the viewer feeling helpless and frustrated, every piece of content gave the user an opportunity to participate.

For the site we created the Progress Pulse.  Every time a user read an article, watched a film or shared a piece of content, the site measured the action the user took. The Progress Pulse measured an individual’s action along with the global communities. The Progress Pulse increased time on the site by 40%, it also gave the users a sense of progress.

I AM PRO SNOW

Our winters are getting shorter and shorter. We need snow, but right now snow needs us. That’s why skiers, snowboarders, and winter sports fans around the world have joined I AM PRO SNOW, to take action to protect the season we love. 

I AM PRO SNOW has grown to include Olympic gold medalist Ted Ligety, Kaylin Richardson, REI, 1% for the Planet, American Birkebeiner, Patagonia, NASTAR, Icelantic Skis, Wagner Custom, Discrete Headwear, Folsom Skis and many more.

Results

By shaping a new model the organization created a bias toward action, which lead to a rise in donations and allowed more people connect with the brand and cause.
